In a landmark civic transformation for Karachi's food culture, Sindh Chief Minister **Syed Murad Ali Shah** has officially inaugurated the **Rs. 250 million Sindhi Muslim Food Walk** located in Chanesar Town (Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society - SMCHS).
The ambitious urban rehabilitation project has transformed one of Karachi's busiest, most congested dining strips into a modern, vehicle-free public promenade designed specifically for pedestrians, families, and tourists.
### Major Upgrades & Infrastructure Transformation
The Rs. 250 million development initiative incorporated extensive municipal and aesthetic upgrades:
- **Complete Underground Cabling:** Hazardous overhead electricity wires and tangled telecommunication cables, which previously posed grave fire hazards, have been completely routed through high-grade underground ducts. - **Car-Free Pedestrian Zone:** Motor vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles are now restricted from entering the core dining boulevard during evening operating hours, providing a safe, pollution-free atmosphere for visitors. - **Walkway Paving & Accessibility:** High-density paver blocks, tactile paving for visually impaired visitors, and wheelchair ramps have been installed along shop fronts and restaurant patios. - **Landscaping & Street Furniture:** Tree plantations, flower beds, waste disposal receptacles, and ornamental street lighting have been introduced to create an inviting urban space. - **Designated Parking & Traffic Routing:** The Traffic Police and municipal administration have designated structured parking areas in adjacent streets with clear directional signage.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony alongside provincial ministers and civic officials, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah underscored the Sindh government's resolve to revitalize historic neighborhoods and foster economic vibrancy. The administration plans to replicate the car-free food street model across other major commercial districts in Karachi.
