The Punjab government has ordered a change to the official name of one of Lahore's most prominent women's educational institutions under a new amendment to provincial law.
Lahore College for Women University will now be officially known as Lahore College for Women, with the word “University” removed from its name.
The Higher Education Department Punjab issued a notification on October 23, 2026, informing vice chancellors and rectors of public and private sector universities about the revised names under the Public Sector Universities (Amendment) Act, 2026.
The notification stated that the changes follow amendments introduced through the legislation, which the Punjab government published in the Punjab Gazette (Extraordinary) on May 6, 2026.
The department directed universities to take further necessary action in accordance with the amended law. However, the revised name will not affect the institution's mandate or its functions related to higher education. The notification covers six public sector educational institutions across Punjab.
### Eligibility & Application Information Beneficiaries and eligible candidates should consult official government departmental portals or designated verification desks to submit documentation.
