The Punjab government has announced changes to the official names of two public sector women's universities as part of a province-wide revision involving several educational institutions.

Government College Women University Faisalabad will now be known as Government College for Women, Faisalabad, while Government College Women University Sialkot will take the name Government College for Women, Sialkot.

The Higher Education Department Punjab issued a notification on October 23, 2026, informing vice chancellors and rectors of public and private sector universities about the revised names under the Public Sector Universities (Amendment) Act, 2026.

The notification stated that the changes follow amendments introduced through the legislation, which the Punjab government published in the Punjab Gazette (Extraordinary) on May 6, 2026.

The department directed universities to take further necessary action in accordance with the amended law. However, the changes will only affect the institutions' official names. Both universities will retain their existing mandates and functions related to higher education.
