Spotify is reportedly preparing to launch a new AI-powered feature that will let users create their own versions of popular songs, but it could cost an additional $4 to $5 per month.

According to a Financial Times report , the music streaming company is planning to introduce the feature in the first quarter of 2027, possibly around the Grammy Awards in February.

The service will be available as a paid add-on for Spotify Premium subscribers, allowing them to create AI-generated covers and remixes of songs from participating artists.

However, Spotify has not confirmed the final pricing or launch date.

### Spotify Will Let Users Create AI Song Covers and Remixes

The upcoming tool will allow Spotify subscribers to use artificial intelligence to change how existing songs sound.

For example, users could turn a folk song into a dance track or create a version that sounds like a different artist is performing it.

Instead of creating entirely new songs, the feature will focus on modifying existing music with permission from participating artists and record labels.

Spotify is also reportedly developing a way for users to add their AI remixes to playlists.

According to the report, streams of these remixes could also count toward the original songs on Spotify's music charts.

The company has said that artists and songwriters behind the original recordings will receive royalties from fan-made versions of their songs.

### AI Remix Feature Could Cost Up to $5 Extra

Spotify is reportedly considering charging between $4 and $5 per month for the new AI tool.

This would be an additional fee on top of the regular Spotify Premium subscription.

For reference, Spotify Premium Individual currently costs $12.99 per month in the United States.

If the reported pricing is introduced, users would pay approximately $16.99 to $17.99 per month for Premium with the AI remix feature.

However, the company has not finalized the price, and the amount could change before launch.

Spotify previously considered introducing a more expensive Music Pro subscription with additional features, including AI remixing tools.

That plan did not launch as originally expected, while lossless audio was eventually added to Premium without an extra charge.

### Spotify Signs Deals With Major Music Companies

Spotify has already signed agreements with several music companies to make the AI remix feature possible.

In May 2026, the company announced a licensing deal with Universal Music Group, allowing users to create AI covers and remixes of songs from participating artists.

Spotify has also reached agreements with Merlin, Kobalt, and Believe, expanding the number of artists and songs that could be supported.

However, the company is still negotiating with Sony Music and Warner Music.

Even when a record label signs an agreement, individual artists will have the option to decide whether their music can be used.

According to the report, Spotify has found it more difficult to convince some of today's biggest artists to participate compared with older, established performers.

This means the feature may initially support only a limited selection of songs.

### Expected Launch Date

Spotify is reportedly targeting the first three months of 2027 for the new AI remix service.

The company could announce the feature around the Grammy Awards in February, although this remains unconfirmed.

Spotify has declined to comment on the reported launch schedule and pricing.

If introduced, the service would give Premium subscribers a new way to interact with their favorite music while creating an additional source of income for participating artists.

For now, users will have to wait for an official announcement to find out which songs will be supported and how much the service will cost.
