The Punjab government has revised the official names of several public sector educational institutions, with a prominent women's university in Bahawalpur also included in the decision.
Government Sadiq College Women University Bahawalpur will now be known as Government Sadiq College, Bahawalpur, following the removal of the word “University” from its name.
The Higher Education Department Punjab issued a notification on October 23, 2026, informing vice chancellors and rectors of public and private sector universities about the changes under the Public Sector Universities (Amendment) Act, 2026.
The notification stated that the revised names follow amendments introduced through the legislation, which the Punjab government published in the Punjab Gazette (Extraordinary) on May 6, 2026.
