The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has decided to strengthen digital monitoring and activate its vigilance wing following reports of tax evasion involving digital payments and fake receipts.

PRA Chairman Muazzam Iqbal Sipra warned that the authority would take strict action against local and international food chains and coffee shops that refuse to accept digital payments.

Sipra said businesses must receive digital payments through their officially declared accounts to prevent record manipulation. He also directed officials to make QR codes mandatory on receipts generated through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS) to enable immediate verification.

The chairman issued these directives while chairing a meeting to review the performance of enforcement teams. He instructed the PRA commissioner for the Lahore Division to accelerate field operations.

The authority has issued notices to more than 70 restaurants following complaints received through social media. Sipra said businesses have a legal and ethical responsibility to deposit the taxes they collect from customers. He warned that the PRA would impose heavy fines on businesses that collect taxes fraudulently but fail to deposit them.
