The federal government has decided to discontinue the fuel subsidy program for motorcyclists, small farmers, and public as well as goods transport operators after a significant decline in international oil prices.
The decision was made during the 7th meeting of the National Steering Committee on Fuel Subsidy, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar. During the meeting, officials reviewed the implementation and impact of the subsidy scheme across all provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the committee concluded that the recent reduction in global oil prices has already provided substantial relief to consumers, reducing the need for additional government support through targeted fuel subsidies.
The move marks the end of a program that was introduced to help vulnerable groups manage rising fuel costs and transportation expenses. Authorities stated that the decision was taken after assessing current market conditions and the benefits consumers are already receiving from lower fuel prices.
