The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched a province-wide crackdown on vehicles using fake, cloned or tampered number plates, deploying surveillance technology across 43 smart safe cities, including Lahore.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, Safe City cameras automatically identify suspicious number plates and generate instant alerts. The system also monitors vehicles whose registration plates are obscured by tape, cloth or other objects.

The spokesperson said authorities had traced and apprehended several suspicious vehicles in Lahore and other parts of Punjab following alerts from the surveillance system. Control room staff immediately alerted the relevant police teams to take action.

Legal proceedings, including case registration, were underway against individuals using fake, cloned or tampered number plates, the spokesperson added.

The authority has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward concealing number plates or altering vehicle registration numbers. It urged motorists to use original, approved number plates that match their vehicle registration records. The PSCA also advised citizens to report any unauthorized use of their vehicle registration numbers on another vehicle by calling Police Helpline 15.
